A story of science, love, and sandpipers. Yes, sandpipers.
We, Tom and Beverly Porter, dreamed of growing grapes and starting a winery. After purchasing a property in the famed Coombsville region, our scientific curiosity led us to study and cherish this land. During our exploration, we discovered fossilized sandpiper footprints dating back millions of years, deepening our appreciation for the property.
Our love affair with the land began with patience. We observed the hillsides, studied the vines, and embraced the seasons. To preserve the terrain, we built a 17,000 square foot underground cellar in the hillside, revealing the sandpiper fossils. This discovery connected us to the ancient history of the land and inspired us to share its bounty.
Now, the sandpiper graces every label of Porter Family Vineyards wine, symbolizing our bond with the land. We are dedicated to stewarding this property for future generations, ensuring its wonders are preserved and cherished.
