Porter Family Vineyards Rated by Wine Spectator in Online Feature ArticleWe are pleased to report the rating of our inaugural vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon by Wine Spectator’s California tasting editor, James Laube. The following excerpt is from the online article published the week of September 22, 2008:
Harvest is in full swing, and the stressful growing season has resulted in low yields and small berries. While there won’t be a huge volume of wine produced, we’re very optimistic that what we have will be superb. The Merlot is already finished with fermentation, as is the small amount of Syrah rosé we made this year. The Syrahs are getting close to completion, and we’re just getting the first half of the Cabernet fruit going – the south-facing sides of the vines in the large Cab block tend to ripen a little bit faster than the north-facing sides. The other half of the Cabernet is still on the vine in the hopes that the beautiful weather we’re enjoying will give the remaining fruit that last gentle push into rich juicy ripeness. |
